The July joint meeting with the Appalachian Area Chapter of Blacksmiths was great!!! The weather was fine, there were many old and new friends in attendance, the food was delicious and plentiful as always, and the demonstration was superb. Lonnie Farmer made a hanging candle holder that was height adjustable - it can be seen by clicking HERE.
The Iron In The Hat made a good amount for the AACB, and everyone seemed to have a great time overall.
June Meeting
The June Meeting was lightly attended - the upcoming July joint meeting was discussed - Remember the July meeting will be at House Mountain Baptist Church on Saturday July 17, 2010 beginning at 9am. Bring a dish to pass for lunch as well as something for the Iron In The Hat. Lonnie Farmer will be the demonstrator so it should be very interesting.
The Power Hammer was set up in lieu of a demonstration due to the extremely high temperatures.
The hammer is quite heavy, and without the commander, it took a while to figure out how to move it across the dirt floor to the pad.
The addition of a plywood road and a floor jack really helped.
Eventually it came down to brute strength.
Then a final tap or two -
And the hammer is home.
Visitors are welcomed and encouraged to attend our meetings! Meetings are held the last Sunday of the month, with the exception of the July Joint Meeting with the Appalachian Area Blacksmith Guild, and December meeting held around the middle of December.
